where do you lose yourself?

how to be graceful in change . . .

under a wave
it's a washing machine
every which way.
You can try
to be graceful or come out smooth
bathing suit all in place.
But why?
If you just let go
and go with the flow
you'll feel bubbles
tickle your face.

When change turns your life upside down you can try really hard to hold on to all your old ways or you can allow the universe to suck you into place.
You never know where it will lead because
after all the new is somewhere you haven't been.

That's what I kindly remind myself when my tongue feels tied, my hair's in my face and my insides are squirming.  It's going to feel strange when I'm wanting (or having to) change. So I realign myself to my clearest big picture and find that still spot deep in my heart and expand it out as big as I can. Then all of the stumbles and fumbles can happen and nothing can knock me off centre.

Hey sometimes I need to remind myself over and over but it's the kindly part that helps the most.

What are some of your kindly reminders? The ones that help the most . . .

lost and found in the stillness

Where else do I lose myself?
It's not always meditation
but when I am still and feel
everything around me

life gets richer
the birds sound clearer
the air meets
the ground embraces

knots unravel
thoughts trail upward
ideas land

there's so much more space
that everything fits
and
can even move round
and

if I get it even bigger
they play

Where do you lose your 'self'
and find your connection
to all?

lost in the music

There's been no music in my furnished apartment so far except for what comes out of my computer. But that's not background music while I'm working, no matter how much I turn it down, if it's right in my face.  Finally I worked out the little stereo and found a cd a radio station even - what had I forgotten?
A whole world remembered.
The winter of my quiet hibernation was delicious.
But now
there's music in my i-ears
And life flows again

Music transports
I lose my self there
and I don't even play

I didn't even know the music of Esperanza Spalding
but I saw a photograph of her playing and I knew.

All of her was there.

Now I really get my mum's expression 'see how the spirit moves you'
I feel it - when I lose my 'self'
then my spirit comes to play

To all those music makers
who've set my soul in motion.
Gratitude
To Rupert and to Prabhu
And Vanessa and to Moo and
so many many more.

To all those I don't know
and accidental moments
driving in my car

what a gift to us you are
thank you

what are you
listening to?

and how does your spirit move you?

where do you lose your self?

Where do you lose your self
and find your connection
to the ground
to your feet
to the air around you

Where do you forget time
and remember the touch
of a moment
the smell
of immanence

Where do you let go the story
and gather the notes
of the tune
that swirls all around you

Where do you drop all the pieces
and express
from your essence

Where do you forget separation
and remember
we are one

I can't spin like a Sufi or fly like Fonteyn but in the moments when I step into the flow and allow 'the spirit to move me' I lose my self and find oneness. Thandie Newton puts it so well. Thank you to all of my wonderful friends for sharing the dance.

And you, where do you lose your self?
I'd love to know
