When Neighbours Become Friends
Designed for: Local Show at Cafe Rumi
Seeded with a project through one deep winter about ‘life birthing’, painting expressions with colour and pattern. After a delicious visit to our new local Cafe Rumi "Where Neighbours Become Friends" their mantra took me, I started to see all kinds of other neighbours as I walked. I noticed the eagle and the crow, a fox in the streetlights, a hedgehog and some friendly ducks, even the trees that kept company by my favourite benches. What fun to watch them make themselves be seen in the abstract paintings I had already on my easel.
Since these neighbours became friends I haven’t stopped seeing. Now a happy habit has formed of painting small and (mostly) daily…‘making friends’ from what’s around me. Once from imagination, now by observation, I find, by painting something, looking long and closely, it can’t help but become a friend.
